Since 2020, IOM Switzerland's Movement Operations Bern unit (MOB) has been managing all air travel for IOM Switzerland beneficiaries locally.
With a team of dedicated experts, MOB organizes flight bookings and logistical arrangements for air transportation of migrants traveling through IOM Switzerland programmes. MOB supports, among others, the following programmes:
- Voluntary Return and Reintegration Assistance, including for victims of human trafficking
- Family Reunification Program
MOB is also ready to support any other IOM programme when needed as well as manage the travel of IOM Switzerland staff on duty and sponsored participants in IOM organized or co-organized activities.
Through pre-negotiated agreements with airlines, MOB obtains preferential fares, better baggage allowances and privileged access to available seats for IOM Switzerland beneficiaries. MOB is also able to respond to travel-related emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Moreover, the unit is organized through a series of global and local standard operating procedures, which ensure that all persons traveling under the auspices of IOM Switzerland can do so in a safe, orderly and dignified manner.
This way, MOB ensures cost-effective air transportation and keeps the protection of migrants at the heart of its operations, from take-off to landing.
